Family Holiday Guide to Byron Bay

Family Holiday Guide to Byron Bay

Summer is here! The kids have finished school for the year and you’re ready for some holiday fun. Byron Bay is blessed with everything you could look for in a family holiday destination and we’re opening up our little book of best kept secrets so that you and your family can plan the ultimate fuss-free, fun-packed and affordable getaway!

Where to Stay?

Like any coastal holiday town Byron Bay is packed with choices for accommodation to suit any style and budget. BUT when you’re on holidays with kids there are a few essentials that not only make life easier, they ensure you don’t miss out on the real reason you’ve travelled here – to relax and have fun.

Self-contained accommodation and camping are always a great choice giving you flexibility and the option of preparing some meals yourself. You could opt for one of the holiday parks right in the thick of things, which have all the usual amenities and close proximity to the main beaches. But our advice is to check out some of the lesser known but truly idyllic little holiday parks just outside the main township, including Suffolk Beachfront Holiday Park, Broken Head Holiday Park and Beaches of Byron. All these holiday parks front onto the beach and offer a range of accommodation options from traditional camping or powered camp sites, self-contained cabins and safari style tents.

Byron Bay also has loads of holiday houses for rent, with all the creature comforts of home. Try Air Bn’B for some amazing listings of houses and apartments in and around town and also in the Byron hinterland.

Hit the Best of the Beaches

Wategos – Idyllic views, protected swimming, waves for the surfers and some of the cleanest and best free beachside BBQ facilities you’ll find anywhere, give Wategos Beach the status of being the most family-friendly beach in Byron Bay. There’s a reason celebrities like Chris Hemsworth have chosen to spend millions just to call this place home. This beach is truly heaven on earth.

Cosy Corner – As the name suggests this protected little pocket is a refuge from the bustle of the main beaches and is situated on the south side of the Byron Lighthouse leading onto Tallow Beach. A local’s favourite, you can look down along the coast and watch the hang gliders breeze overhead. Bliss!

Broken Head Beach – Just a short drive (or bike ride) south of Byron Bay you’ll find Broken Head, one of the most magical beaches you’ll ever visit. Lush rainforest meets the sand here, with a large nature reserve on the headland that has a great walking track for exploring.
