About Byron Bay Markets

Take a stroll down to the Byron Bay markets and every sense comes alive with the sight, sound and aromas of the world. Beautifully crafted items from every exotic part of the world including a vast array of locally produced product. This market is a banquet for your senses.

Held on the 1st Sunday of every month, the Byron Bay Markets transform a grassy field into a riot of rainbow colours. This is how the locals prefer to do business. Here you will find products unique to the area and the perfect place to source that special gift or memento of your Byron Bay visit. Have a pair of sandals made whilst you watch. Be amazed at the ingenuity of upcycling old cutlery into wind chimes and fashion jewellery. Shop for unique, locally designed clothes, swimwear and kids clothes. Hungry? The Byron Bay markets will not disappoint. Fuel yourself with an eco-cup of freshly ground organic coffee, a vegan muffin or a decadent but, again, organic, ice cream made from freshly squeezed sugar cane juice.

Byron Bay market is the antithesis of ‘mass produced’ or ‘sweatshop’. The markets are scrupulous in maintaining their craft feel and integrity and not allowing tacky cheap Chinese imports to be sold. The items you find are skilfully crafted by artists who value the environment and are proud of their work. Byron Bay has long been an area to attract creative people and the Byron Bay markets are the perfect showcase for their artistry.

The Byron Bay markets provide the perfect opportunity to explore and dabble in different natural and alternative therapies, with massages, holistic treatments and tarot card readings a plenty. If you have never had an Ayurveda massage, this is your opportunity. Everything which makes this area unique and alternative is on show at this market. Even if you are not buying, the carnival atmosphere of fun and laughter is a great way to spend a morning.

The Channon Market

On the 2nd Sunday of each month, this charmingly quaint and fairly isolated village becomes a vibrant and lively scene. One of the oldest established markets in the Byron Shire; it has remained the highlight of this community for over 30 years. Smaller and quieter than the Byron Bay markets, it is the perfect place to pick up local produce and craft. Said to have a bit more ‘feral funk’ than the coastal markets, you will find a wealth of vintage, hand-made goods and great organic food. The centre of the markets comes alive with music and entertainment. Some planned, some not. Beautifully shady and cool on hot summer afternoons, The Channon Market is a one of the best hinterland market experiences you can have.

Bangalow Markets

Nestled between Byron Bay and Lismore, on the 4th Sunday of every month, the beautiful and historic village of Bangalow welcomes visitors and locals alike to its vibrant market. Held at the showground’s and shaded by huge old trees; this is one of the prettiest settings for a market anywhere. Again, local produce, arts and crafts are showcased. If you are a vintage clothing fan, you will be thrilled with the choice available here. A genuine mix of locals, visitors and farmers. When you are finished browsing, the town is well worth a visit. A true regional treasure.
